We will have a different project every month.
Depending on time, students may need to finish their project on their own time.

Note: We are not Zentangle Certified Instructors, we are just simply a group of tangle addicts who love the art. Students will need to purchase their own markers after the 1st class. Recommendations will be suggested.

If you would like to bring a snack to share, feel free to do so!
Remember when tangling, there are no mistakes! Enjoy and Relax!

"Integral Peace" - Peace may seem complicated but it is just an acknowledgement that we are all connected. ☮❤

Bookmarker Anyone?

Mixing it up today, instead of posting an Artist Trading Card or a Postcard, I am posting a Bookmark. Fun and easy to make. I used card-stock, a pencil to draw the first set of outlines, and one of my Micron Archival Pens.

My need to update my technical certifications for my day job, prompted me that I am going to start being a book Junkie again. So, why not study in style? Here is bookmarker #1, I will post some additional ones as I get them finished. I am thinking that the next one will be nautical in nature: fish and it will have an under the sea theme. Of course I need to create one with Peace Signs that's a no brainier.

I hope that I have inspired you to try making a few bookmarkers of your own. Remember there are no mistakes, just keep using those repetitive patterns. When they are all done, I will most likely punch a hole in the top and add a little ribbon. Use those favorite Sakura markers of yours and add some color and don't forget to always sign your artwork.

There are lots of books and websites on doodling and Zentangle® patterns.  Here are just a few websites to get you started:

Happy Doodling! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. It's addictive, so just beware!

Bats

Postcard: "Bats", learning more than I need to know about bats. They are always on my mind.
Facts about Bats:
  • Bats are the only mammals able to fly.
  • A single brown bat can catch around 1,200 mosquito-size insects in one hour.
  • Vampire bats don't suck blood. Well that's an added plus.
  • Bats don't have fat days. Could I be a bat just for one day? LOL!
  • Fewer than 10 people in the last 50 years have contracted rabies from North American bats.
  • Bats use echolocation to get around in the dark. Bats send out beeps and listen for variations in the echoes that bounce back at them and that's how they get around.
  • Bats make up a quarter of all mammals. There are 1,100 species in the world.
  • More than 50 percent of bat species in the United States are either in severe decline or are listed as endangered.
  • Bats keep warm by folding their wings around them, trapping air against their bodies for instant insulation. I don't want them wrapping their wings around me! Do you?
  • A anticoagulant found in vampire bat saliva may soon be used to treat human cardiac patients.
  • Bats only have one pup a year.
  • The average lifespan of a bat varies, but some species of can live to be 30 years old.
  • Bats wash behind their ears. Bats spend more time grooming themselves than even the most image-obsessed teenager.
I decided that since my friends keep telling me that Bats are our friends, I would do some research and find out for myself. They are scary looking, they stay out way too late and I still really don't want to be too close to them but it does appear that that they do some good.

What do you think? Are those bats your friend? Or are you like me, you still want to keep them at a far distance? Now this was not only a fun postcard to create but in the process we all received a greater appreciation for those little ugly looking subjects on the card.

Doodles from Oil City PA

Are you addicted to Doodling?
I have been doodling since I was a kid, so why am I doodling as an adult? Well, it is fun and relaxing for starters. It's also a little therapeutic. If you make a mistake, just doodle something else over top of it and move on. There are really no rules and I like that in my artwork. I bought a SMASH journal just for all of my doodles.

I was inspired to create a doodle postcard after finding this website: http://bellatrixtangles.blogspot.com/ - and when I saw doodles and a postcard, well that was all it took, I couldn't resist.

I have also been following the http://rainbowelephant.com/ website, I love all of the demonstration videos. The really cool thing about doodling is that you can doodle anywhere at anytime, the supplies are limited, paper and a black ink marker and random doodles coming from your head.  You never know what will be put on paper.

You know that I also love creating ATC's (and trading them as well), so I am including a few black and white doodle ATC cards that I created following some of the video demonstrations on different techniques from the http://rainbowelephant.com/ website.

Well, maybe my next post will include some doodles with a little color.  If you would like to share some of your doodle projects on our blog, email me at hollyjarzenskiberlin@gmail.com
